Designing a distributed AOP runtime composition model

Abstract: International audienceIn this paper we present Damon, a new distributed aspect-oriented composition model. Our model mimics the CCM and is based on computational reflection, component-based design, and separation of concerns. Moreover, we benefit from the peer-to-peer substrate to implement these services in a decentralized and efficient way. Damon aims to provide new distributed concerns (i.e. replication) to existent or new applications transparently. It reduces the complexity of application development and … Show more

“…They both support distributed aspect composition but no support for consistency and dynamic reconfiguration. Damon [3] is a distributed AO-middleware offering dynamic reconfiguration with remote pointcut and remote advice capabilities similar to AO-OpenCom and DyMac. However, the approach does not provide any consistency mechanisms for use during reconfiguration.…”

“…In response to this challenge, aspect-oriented AO-middleware [1], [2], [3], [4] has recently emerged as a suitable architecture to build reconfigurable distributed systems. The core concept of AO-middleware is that of an aspect: a module that deals with one specific concern and can be changed independently of other modules.…”

“…For satisfying the transparency and distributed interception requirements, we chose as the basis of our implementation the distributed P2P interception middleware Damon [4]. Using this middleware, developers can implement and compose distributed interceptors in large-scale environments.…”

“…Such distributed interceptors, activated by local pointcuts (source hooks), trigger remote calls via P2P routing abstractions. A more detailed description of Damon middleware services is presented in [4].…”
