Building a collaborative peer-to-peer wiki system on a structured overlay

Abstract: The ever growing request for digital information raises the need for content distribution architectures providing high storage capacity, data availability and good performance. While many simple solutions for scalable distribution of quasi-static content exist, there are still no approaches that can ensure both scalability and consistency for the case of highly dynamic content, such as the data managed inside wikis. We propose a peer-to-peer solution for distributing and managing dynamic content, that combines… Show more

“…Piki and Uniwiki distribute the wiki contents over all the participating peers, allowing scalability, cost sharing, and use limited replication to ensure fault tolerance. Wooki , also based on a P2P network, fully replicates the wiki on each node, privileging maximal fault‐tolerance, at the cost of low scalability.…”

“…In product design, a large amount of lesson-learned knowledge resources collected in an enterprise may be accumulated easily through certain mechanism of knowledge accumulation based on previous studies by standard wiki technology. 1619 However, when engineers want to reuse the accumulated knowledge in wikis, the existing wiki technologies and systems show limitations that only a simple keyword-based search mechanism is available. 20 The keyword-based search methods are looking whether keywords in a user query match the content of web pages, which suffer from the vague-meaning problem that is created by the following causes: 21 First, keyword-based search methods are not able to understand the meaning of a user query.…”
