UniWiki: A Collaborative P2P System for Distributed Wiki Applications

Abstract: The ever growing request for digital information raises the need for content distribution architectures providing high storage capacity, data availability and good performance. While many simple solutions for scalable distribution of quasi-static content exist, there are still no approaches that can ensure both scalability and consistency for the case of highly dynamic content, such as the data managed inside wikis. We propose a peer to peer solution for distributing and managing dynamic content, that combines… Show more

“…These criteria were previously detailed in section 2. We studied many research works on RDF data storage and retrieval in structured P2P systems like [12], [10], [7] and [11], others concerned with the replication of data on P2P networks like [6], and P2P wikis like [9] before proposing our approaches.…”

“…UniWiki is a collaborative peer to peer system for distributing and managing dynamic content that combines two widely studied technologies: Distributed Hash Tables (DHT) and optimistic replication (Oster et al, 2009). The architecture of UniWiki is built on top of a reliable, inexpensive and consistent DHT-based storage, any number of front-ends can be added, ensuring both read and write scalability, as well as suitability for large-scale scenarios.…”

“…Several Wiki systems have a distributed architecture but pursue other goals. Efficient content distribution: UniWiki [38] uses P2P and distributed hash tables for sharing collaborative content, Tribler uses BitTorrent to distribute multimedia files connected to Wikipedia articles [39]. Transactional processing: [40] studies ACID-like schemes for distributed Wikis on overlay networks.…”
