Design of dual‐band annular slot antenna with strip‐loaded approach

Abstract: This article investigation develops and experimentally explores the dual-band design for a compact coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed annular slot antenna loaded with conducting strips. In the proposed strip-loaded design, the arc-like metal strips excite the first resonant mode at the operating frequency, which is lower than that of the annular slot antenna, to achieve miniaturization. The prototype is implemented on a 0.8 mm FR-4 substrate with e r ¼ 4.4; the outer and inner radii of the compact annular slot are 9… Show more

“…The upper frequency is determined by the dimensions of the circular slot, and other frequencies are obtained by inserting arc-shaped metallic strips without increasing the overall antenna area. Compared to the slot antennas shown in [1]- [9], the proposed antenna not only achieves multiband simultaneously, but also features a compact structure that is easy to manufacture. Moreover, the antenna design by varying the extended angle of metallic strip shows a superior multiband characteristic to satisfy the requirements of WLAN in the 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz bands.…”

“…However, these works are inherently large in size. From a size-reduction point of view, it is desirable to create a lower operating band of a multifrequency antenna without increasing the occupied antenna area [8], [9]. Although the slot antenna proposed in [8] is capable of dualband operation with wider tuning range, its bandwidth of lower operating frequency is relatively narrow.…”

“…However, the aforementioned techniques supporting triple/multi-band operations still suffer from large size. To solve this problem, Chiang et al [10] proposed the slot antenna with strip-loaded approach to realize the miniaturization. Ghosh et al [11] described a miniaturization slot antenna using slit loading.…”
