“…Later, anthraquinone-labelled pyrrolidinyl peptide nucleic acid (acpcPNA) probe (AQ-PNA) was immobilized onto the electrode surface to detect 14 bp synthetic oligonucleotide sequence like HPV DNA using square-wave voltammetry. In another study, Gopinath and colleagues developed a carbon nanotube FET (CNTFET) based biosensor for the detection of HPV infections in early stages ( Gopinath et al, 2018 ). Here, HPV DNA probe was deposited onto the CNT thin film via 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) to improve the current ratings.…”

“…CNT-based virus biosensors relying on DPV exhibit very high recovery in complex media such as serum 109,125 and cells. 112 CNTs have also been introduced to FET, 129,135,142,144 chemiresistors, 132,133 volumetric assays, 123 optical sensors 136 as well as conventional techniques for viral genome recognition such as PCR 145,146 and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). 113 Reverse transcription LAMP-based HIV-1 DNA detection using carboxylated CNTs is even faster than fluorescent PCR and shows a 96.5% concordance rate with Roche instruments and a Nernstian response factor of 63.567 mV pH À1 .…”

“…CNT functionalized electrodes can be easily conjugated with various receptors such as aptamers, 123,124 molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), 124,125 proteins 109,123,[126][127][128] as well as nucleic acids (Table 1). [111][112][113] Several different coupling chemistries such as cysteamine, 126 ethyl(dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) with N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), 109,123,127 (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), 123 and glutaraldehyde 129 have been explored to conjugate CNTs with receptors. Choice of a receptor as well as the chemistry employed for its immobilization play a critical role in the sensing properties.…”

“…CNT‐FET devices are now commonly used in research in the detection of inorganic molecules, DNA and biological proteins (Artyukhin et al, 2006). They have been shown capable to directly interact with neuroglial cells in culture and detect the release of ATP from the cells (Huang et al, 2009) as well as be targeted to the detection of specific cancer antigens allowing the detection of HPV (Gopinath et al, 2018). Some groups have shown biocompatibility can be achieved through the functionalization of the CNTs with monosaccharides (Sudibya et al, 2009) or by encapsulating the channel in a lipophilic membrane, thereby overcoming any toxicity (Joshi, Bhatt, Jaworska, et al, 2018) which has also been shown to have an anti‐fouling effect on the FET device allowing for the detection of molecules in even complex, biologically relevant solutions (Chen et al, 2018).…”
