Design of an H-shape cross slotted aperture-coupled microstrip patch antenna

Abstract: An H-shaped cross slotted aperture-coupled microstrip patch antenna with double-sided notches is presented. By proper choice of the notch dimensions, aperture size and foam material height, a wide band and high gain operation could be realized. The impedance bandwidth (based on a -10 dB return loss) of the designed antenna reaches about 12.5% . The maximum gain o{the antenna is 9.35dBi, and the whole antenna is about 220mm*210mm*30mm.

“…The proposed dual-polarized microstrip antenna is considerable solution to accommodate PCS, IMT-2000, WLAN and WiMAX service frequency bands altogether. The proposed antenna had the impedance bandwidth of up to 10% larger than that of the reported antenna [4], [5], [6], [7]. Table 1 The most sensitive parameters of the proposed antenna are the length (D f ), the height (h1) of L-strip, and the height of the air-gap (H).…”

“…Compared to the single-feed CP antennas, wider impedance and AR bandwidths can be achieved by dual feed and four sequential rotation feed CP antennas [3][4][5][6] even with a single element configuration. Various techniques of the matching skills in microstrip antennas have been presented to improve the AR bandwidth in the last two decades, such as the L-probe [7][8][9], and the aperture coupled feed methods [10][11][12][13].…”

“…In [12], the authors designed a dual-band circularly polarized stacked annular-ring patch antenna based on H-shaped aperture coupling with frequency ratio of about 1.28. In [13], An H-shaped cross slotted aperture-coupled microstrip patch antenna with double-sided notches is presented. Its impedance bandwidth reaches about 12.5% with maximum gain of about 9.35 dBi.…”

“…In [9] dual frequency is achieved by cutting a square slot in the middle of a rectangular patch where they achieved both compactness and dual frequency operation. Dual frequency with tuneable frequency ratio can be attained by loading a pair of narrow slots parallel and close to the radiating edges of a bow tie patch [10]. Pre factual geometry and two short circuits in patch are used to achieve compact dual-band circular polarization antenna [11].…”
