Abstract:In this study a game-based learning approach was introduced among students and teachers. Several chemistry games and a survey method were used as a tool to obtain insight into students' knowledge about ionic bonding, to learn about the students' and teachers' perceptions related to this teaching method and to get insights into the misunderstanding and misconceptions that students might have. Students were tested on the ionic bonding test and both students and teachers anonymously filled in a questionnaire to express their perceptions about the game-based learning approach. Students achievements on the test were satisfactory; the mean score was 11.31 out of 15 (or 75.33 %). Most comments regarding the lesson itself were positive, stating that the lesson was well planned, interesting and very helpful. The usage of games in chemistry classroom was proven to be an excellent way to motivate students, to provide active engagement and discussion among students and to develop skills to solve problems.

Serious games are becoming an alternative educational method in a variety of fields because of their potential to improve the quality of learning experiences and to facilitate knowledge acquisition and content understanding. Moreover, entertainment-driven learners are more easily motivated to benefit from the learning process through meaningful activities defined in a game context. Interfacing educational computer games with multisensorial interfaces allows for a seamless integration between virtual and physical environments. Multisensorial cues can improve memory and attention and increase the cognitive and sensory-motor performance. Despite of the increasing knowledge in sensory processes, multisensory experiences and interactions in computer based instruction remain insufficiently explored and understood. In this paper, we present a multisensory educational gameFragrance Channel -and we investigate how enabling olfaction can contribute to users' learning performance, engagement and quality of experience. We compare results obtained after experiencing Fragrance Channel in the presence and absence of olfactory feedback on both a mobile and a PC. A knowledge test administered before and immediately after showed that our proposed educational game led to an improvement of performance in all the explored conditions. Subjective measurements carried out after the olfactory experience showed that students enjoyed the scenario and appreciated it as being relevant.

O objetivo desse trabalho foi construir e aplicar um jogo didático denominado Jogo das Ligações Químicas para investigar concepções sobre a sua utilização no ensino e constatar se o jogo contribui para a aprendizagem de novos saberes da disciplina de Química. Participaram da pesquisa qualitativa dezenove acadêmicos do curso de Licenciatura em Química da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, participantes do Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência -PIBID. Para a coleta de dados foi aplicado um questionário inicial, aplicação do jogo e um questionário final. A organização e análise dos resultados foram realizados de acordo com análise de conteúdo de Bardin (2011). Os participantes revelaram que, o jogo, além de ter uma função educativa, também pode contribuir para a formação cidadã do aluno, porque aborda conceitos de ligações químicas relacionados às características e funções dos elementos presentes em substâncias químicas tanto no organismo como na utilização e aplicação no dia-a-dia. O jogo das Ligações Químicas poderá auxiliar o professor durante os processos de ensino e de aprendizagem do referido conteúdo. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Jogo Didático. Ensino de Química. Aprendizagem.
