Design and Development of Neomycin Sulfate Gel Loaded with Solid Lipid Nanoparticles for Buccal Mucosal Wound Healing

Abstract: Drug administration to the wound site is a potential method for wound healing. The drug retention duration should be extended, and drug permeability through the buccal mucosal layer should be regulated. Oral wounds can be caused by inflammation, ulcers, trauma, or pathological lesions; if these wounds are not treated properly, they can lead to pain, infection, and subsequent undesirable scarring. This study aimed to develop Kolliphor-407 P-based gel containing neomycin sulfate (NES) loaded in solid lipid nanop… Show more

“…This evaluation is done by identifying and studying the interaction between independent and dependent variables and how they affect product performance; an approach that results in fewer experiments that are time-and cost-efficient. The main elements of QbD are defining desired product profiles, designing product and manufacturing processes, and identifying critical quality parameters and variables [35][36][37][38][39][40]. For developing mucoadhesive gels containing MIC, a D-optimal design with three variables was used.…”

“…The bands at 1119 and 1521 cm −1 were moving toward lower wavenumbers. Also, compared to the NS curve, the strength of the bands at 2927 and 1628 cm −1 (which have to do with the bending vibration of OH groups) was lower (Hosny et al., 2022 ). The bending vibrations of CeH groups in phenyl rings caused the peak to show up at 857 cm −1 .…”

“…This novel formulation also promoted neomycin bioavailability because of successful mucosal membrane permeation. Furthermore, it could preserve its efficacious properties after one month of storage at 25 °C, enhancing its effect on wound healing [ 54 ]. Simvastatin (SIM), an HMG-Co reductase inhibitor known for its cholesterol-lowering effect, had been encapsulated in self-gelling SLNs to evaluate its wound-repairing activity.…”
