Dendrobine biosynthesis in Dendrobium nobile in four different habitats is affected by the variations in the endophytic fungal community

Abstract: Dendrobium nobile, an epiphytic plant, is a traditional medicinal herb with abundant endophytes. It is unclear whether the variation in the diversity and abundance of endophytes could stimulate the biosynthesis of medicinal compounds in the plant. In this study, we collected fresh stems of D. nobile from four habitats for investigating the fungal community structure, dendrobine content, and environment factors and their correlations. The results indicated no significant difference in endophytic fungal diversit… Show more

“…Fungi of the phylum Ascomycota were dominant in leaves, pseudobulbs, and roots of G. skinneri, and have also been reported as abundant in the endophytic communities of Dendrobium nobile and Vanilla planifolia [16,30]. Ascomycetes also form part of the fungal communities of the bark of coffee trees (Coffea arabica L. and Coffea canephora L.; Rubiaceae), trees of the genus Inga (Fabaceae) in agroforestry systems, Quercus yiwuensis C.C.Huang ex Y.C.Hsu and H.W.Jen (Fagaceae), and Pistacia weinmannifolia J.Poiss.…”

“…The ITS2 region of the fungi was amplified with slightly modified versions of the primers ITS1FI2 (5′-GTGARTCATCGAATCTTTG-3′) and ITS2 (5′-TCCTCCGCTTATTGATATGC-3′). Amplification, purification and sequencing library construction were performed as described in ( Li L. et al, 2022 ). The libraries were sequenced on the NovaSeq PE250 platform.…”

“…To date, the application of multiomic technology in studies on secondary metabolism to determine the interactions between plants and endophytes is becoming more widespread [ 128 , 131 ]. In research, multomics generally takes the form of metaomics, which mainly includes metagenomics, macrotranscriptomics, and macroproteomics.…”
