Demand Forecast of Petroleum Product Consumption in the Chinese Transportation Industry

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, petroleum product (mainly petrol and diesel) consumption in the transportation sector of China is analyzed. This was based on the Bayesian linear regression theory and Markov Chain Monte Carlo method (MCMC), establishing a demand-forecast model of petrol and diesel consumption introduced into the analytical framework with explanatory variables of urbanization level, per capita GDP, turnover of passengers (freight) in aggregate (TPA, TFA), and civilian vehicle number (CVN) and explained … Show more

“…A dramatic increase in road transportation of both people and freight, power conversion from steam to diesel in rail transportation, and a significant rise in domestic air transportation have been identified as the three major contributors to the growth of oil demand in the transportation sector [65]. Among these factors, road transportation has seen the fastest growth and it is the dominant of the three [66], because the automobile industry is one of the key development projects of the Chinese government. Within this context, the potential for oil demand growth remains great.…”

“…Most of them were focused on the marketing research area and not machine learning models strategies. The paper [13] described the problem of forecasting fuels sales but from a perspective of long-term forecasts -for a few years ahead. The authors of the paper [14] focused more on the attributes describing the petrol stations and their surroundings and the models were developed for planning purposes in order to assess potential sales of new sites.…”

“…It is described in the studies of Nakanishi (2006), Kugelevičius and Kuprys (2007), Chai, Wang, Guo (2012), Grushevenko (2012), Wang, Huo, Johnson, He (2006), Grigoriev, Kurdin (2013). The relation of energy consumption dynamics to macroeconomic variables dynamics is traditionally calculated by using regression and simulation models.…”
