Dehydrogenation of Isobutane with Carbon Dioxide over SBA-15-Supported Vanadium Oxide Catalysts

Abstract: A series of vanadia catalysts supported on SBA-15 (V/SBA) with a vanadia (V) content ranging from 1% to 11% were prepared by an incipient wetness method. Their catalytic behavior in the dehydrogenation of isobutane to isobutene with CO 2 was examined. The catalysts were characterized by N 2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR). It was found that these catalysts were effective for the dehydrogenation reaction, and… Show more

“…Owing to this higher operating temperature, the productivity obtained stands out among those reported in the literature for CODH ( Fig. 4 ): The production rate of isobutylene achieved at 675°C under MWH is about five times higher than that obtained on V/C act , the best catalyst for isobutane CODH ( 30 ) among the available literature ( 7 , 10 , 27 , 31 35 ). This is due to the fact that the V/C act catalyst was used in a conventionally heated reactor, and therefore, the operating temperature was limited to 600°C to avoid the dominance of homogeneous contributions.…”

“…Compared with employing O 2 as an oxidant, CO 2 has obvious advantages such as improving the selectivity toward targeted olefins and decreasing CO 2 emissions . Several types of catalysts such as Cr 2 O 3 , V 2 O 5 and V–Mg–O have been explored for isobutane dehydrogenation with carbon dioxide. The catalytic activity is strongly dependent on the catalyst support.…”

“…The catalytic activity is strongly dependent on the catalyst support. γ‐Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , active carbon (AC), mesoporous SiO 2 molecular sieve ( e.g ., SBA‐15) are generally chosen as the supports to prepare the supported catalysts. However, the application of this technology is still challenged by the low activity and fast catalyst deactivation.…”

“…In the present study, the ODH of isobutane to isobutene was investigated. Isobutene is a valuable chemical used for the production of polyisobutene, methyl tert-butyl ether, butyl rubber, and methyl acrylates 7 . Various metal oxide-based and metal-free catalysts such as chromia-based catalysts, metal pyrophosphates, polyoxometalates, carbon-based catalysts, and boron nitride catalysts have been investigated for the ODH of isobutane 1,8 .…”
