“…The AMP defensin takes two forms, defensin 1 and defensin 2, which are thought to have different roles within the honey bee colony. Defensin 1 appears to be associated with social immunity, and defensin 2 individual immunity (Klaudiny et al 2005;Ilyasov et al 2013). Our study specifically measured defensin 2 because we were interested in individual immunocompetence of larvae, but we found no significant variation in its expression between larval genotypes.…”
