Decreased expression of Dkk1 and Dkk3 in human clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Abstract: Abstract. The expression patterns of the Dickkopf (Dkk) family of proteins varies in different cancers. In the present study, the expression levels of Dkk1 and Dkk3 were investigated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) tissues. Dkk1 and Dkk3 serum levels were also examined in patients with ccRCC, and the association between clinicopathological features and Dkk levels was investigated. Serum Dkk1 and Dkk3 were quantified using ELISA in 64 patients with ccRCC and in 30 healthy individuals (controls). The … Show more

“…Significant decrease in tumorigenic ability in nude mice was observed in SFRP1-silenced ccRCC cells [27]. The mRNA and protein expression level of DKK was significant decrease in ccRCC patients [28]. LZTFL1 regulates the nuclear translocation of β-catenin and correlates with Wnt signaling [2931].…”

“…SATB2 has been shown to be highly expressed in osteosarcoma cells and has been used as a sensitive marker for this type of bone malignancy [Seong et al, ; Davis and Horvai, ;]. In contrast, some reports suggest that SATB2 acts as a tumor suppressor, however no patients with documented SATB2 haploinsufficiency have been reported to have malignancies thus far [Brocato and Costa, ; Guo et al, ; Mansour et al, ; Wu et al, ]. Thus, the precise role of SATB2 in cancer remains to be fully elucidated.…”

“…Loss of Dkk3 protein expression is associated with poor prognoses in patients with gastric cancer, indicating that it may be a biomarker for predicting lymph node involvement in these patients (35). Dkk3 has recently been implicated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and may present a novel molecular target for its diagnosis and treatment (36). Additionally, Dkk3 may represent a therapeutic target for the treatment of heart failure following myocardial infarction (37).…”
