“…It is quite unlikely that these disturbances in electrical activity can account for amnesia following protein synthesis inhibition for several reasons. First, CYC given approximately 2 hr before object-discrimination training, so that inhibition of protein synthesis was declining at the time of training, did not produce memory impairment even though according to Wilcox et al (1974) EEG disturbances should have been present during and after training. Similar results have been obtained with AXM (Barondes & Cohen, 1967b) and with ANI (Davis et al, 1980).…”

“…The gross effects of PURO on electrical activity and on seizure threshold cannot account for the amnestic effects of the PSIs, because the glutarimide derivatives-CYC and AXMdo not produce these effects (Cohen & Barondes, 1967;Cohen et al, 1966). More recently, it was reported that CYC does produce measurable alterations in mouse cerebral electrical activity and evoked responses (Wilcox, Andry, & Luttges, 1974). Although these effects of CYC differed from those of PURO and did not constitute gross aberrations in the BEG* there were nevertheless statistically significant abnormalities in the EEG power spectra for at least 24 hr after injection (frequency range examined was 2 to 11 Hz).…”

“…Transcommissural evoked responses were present and appeared to be normal. Amplitude and wave-shape were not evaluated statistically so it is possible that subtle changes may have been missed (see Wilcox et al, 1974). Nevertheless, it seemed clear that there were no gross alterations in the usual indices of cerebral electrical activity.…”
