Cutting from Campomanesia aurea O. Berg (Myrtaceae): The collection time of propagules and the effects of auxin

Abstract: Campomanesia aurea is a potentially ornamental native species of the Pampa Biome and its vegetative propagation may be an alternative for producing seedlings on a commercial scale. Thus, the goal of this study was to verify the feasibility of vegetative propagation of C. aurea collected at different times under the use of IBA. Cuttings were collected in an in situ in the Municipality of Barão do Triunfo, RS, Brazil, in autumn, winter and spring. IBA at concentrations of zero, 2,000, 4,000, 6,000 and 8,000 mg L… Show more

“…High temperatures promote a faster sprout growth and a greater rooting (Hartmann et al, 2011). The results of rooting obtained in this study were higher than those found in previous experiments for cuttings of C. aurea collected directly from the field: 28, 20, 8 and 25%, in the summer, autumn, winter and spring, respectively (Emer et al, 2016;Emer et al, 2018). Among the factors that may have contributed to the results obtained by minicutting, there are better nutrition of matrix plants and the juvenile state of the propagules.…”

“…Previous research has shown that cuttings of C. aurea collected directly from the field present a low rooting (Emer et al, 2016;Emer et al, 2018). Therefore, the production of seedlings by cuttings collected from minigardens might be an alternative for the vegetative propagation of this species, since there is a control of nutritional management in matrix plants, besides obtaining juvenile material, which is more suitable to rooting.…”

“…In addition to stimulating rhizogenesis, IBA has been also widely reported as positively influencing the root system quality, ensuring a greater root volume and length (Hartmann et al, 2017;Emer et al, 2018). However, under the experimental conditions of the present study, the low rates of rooting made it impossible to verify this information (Table 1).…”

“…Campomanesia aurea O. Berg (Myrtaceae) is popularly known as "goiabinha-do-campo" (Lorenzi et al, 2006) and is a native plant in Brazil, which possess ornamental potential, occurring from the region of Cerrado in the south of the state São Paulo to the region Pampa, located at the south of the state Rio Grande do Sul (RS) (Emer et al, 2018;Sobral et al, 2013). In the literature, species of the genus Campomanesia sp.…”
