Customized physical and structural features of phosphate-based glass-ceramics: role of Ag nanoparticles and Ho3+ impurities

Abstract: The effects of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) embedment on the physical and structural characteristics of the holmium ions (Ho 3+ ) activated phosphate-based glass-ceramics were assessed. Two series of such glass-ceramics were prepared using the melt-quenching and characterized. In the first series, the Ag NPs were nucleated from the incorporated AgCl via the redox process. In the second series, the pure Ag nanopowder was directly added. The overall properties of these glass-ceramics were strongly sensitive to … Show more

“…The density lies in the range of 5.166 -5.200 g.cm -3 . The first incorporation of TiO 2 NPs causes a decrease in the density of glass from 5.200 g.cm -3 to 5.166 g.cm -3 manifests an increasing number of non-bridging oxygen (NBO) in the glass network [8]. The addition of 0.03 mol% Au NPs (TZNETiAu0.03 glass) shows a slight increment in the density from 5.166 g.cm -3 to 5.189 g.cm -3 .…”
