Background: To determine the level of knowledge on human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and vaccination, and the attitude towards HPV vaccination in pediatricians, obstetricians and gynecologists (OBG). Materials and Methods: Participants were administered a 40-question survey, investigating the demographic properties, the knowledge on the HPV infection-vaccination and attitudes towards vaccination. Results: The study enrolled a total of 228 participants (131 pediatricians and 97 OBGs). At a rate of 99.6%, the participants agreed with the fact that the HPV infection was the most common sexually transmitted disease and 33.8% of the participants had the opinion that the HPV vaccination should be administered only in women. The lowest level of HPV vaccine recommendation was among the pediatrics specialists (59.4%, p=0.012). When asked whether they would have their daughters receive HPV vaccination, 79.5% of the participants answered favorably; this rate was 36.7% for the sons. At a rate of 59.5% of the participants thought that the HPV vaccine needed to be included in the national vaccine schedule. Most of the participants (91.6%) had the idea that reduction of the vaccine costs would increase the vaccination frequency. Conclusions: We observed that the consideration of the costs and the prejudices relating to the inefficacy of vaccination as well as the inadequate level of knowledge were involved in the physicians' resistance to HPV vaccination. We believe that the healthcare professionals should be informed adequately to overcome false beliefs, thereby ensuring success of the HPV vaccine upon inclusion in the national vaccine schedule in the future.

EPIDEMIOLOGIA DA HEPATITE B NO BRASIL E NO MUNDOA hepatite B é uma doença de distribuição universal, presente em todos os continentes, porém com variações nos níveis de endemicidade. A Organização Mundial de Saúde estima que cerca de 2 bilhões de pessoas tenham sido infectadas pelo HBV O HBV é transmitido principalmente através do sangue, mas outros fluidos como sêmen, secreções vaginais e saliva podem estar envolvidos na transmissão desse agente. Há três principais formas de transmissão do HBV: vertical, sexual e parenteral (7).Nas áreas com prevalência intermediária ou alta a maioria dos indivíduos se infecta no momento do nascimento (transmissão vertical) ou durante os primeiros anos da infância pelo contato com portadores do vírus, o que ocorre com mais frequência entre membros da mesma família. Já nas áreas de baixa prevalência a infecção é adquirida primariamente durante a vida adulta, principalmente pela via sexual (33, 34).Em geral, quando a infecção pelo HBV ocorre em indivíduos adultos, a mesma tende a evoluir para a cronicidade em cerca de 5% dos indivíduos infectados. ESTRUTURA DO HBVAs células infectadas pelo HBV produzem diferentes tipos de partículas relacionadas ao vírus, as quais podem ser identificadas por microscopia eletrônica no PROTEÍNAS VIRAIS ANTÍGENOS DE SUPERFÍCIE (ENVELOPE)O principal antígeno do envelope do HBV é o HBsAg, mas também encontramos as proteínas L ("large") e M ("medium"), que contém os antígenos correspondentes às regiões pré S1 e pré S2 do genoma viral, além de compartilharem as regiões antigênicas do HBsAg. O HBsAg é encontrado no envelope viral em sua forma não -glicosilada (p25) e glicosilada (gp29), a proteína M em duas formas glicosiladas (gp33 e gp36) e a proteína L em uma forma não -glicosilada (p39) e outra glicosilada (gp42) (60).A principal proteína do envelope do HBV é denominada de HBsAg, é altamente imunogênica e é a base da vacina utilizada contra a infecção pelo HBV, que inicialmente consistia em HBsAg isolado do plasma de indivíduos infectados e atualmente são utilizadas proteínas HBs purificadas produzidas por engenharia genética. Os anticorpos anti-HBs gerados pela vacinação ou que constituem a imunoglobulina hiperimune são predominantemente dirigidos contra um epítopo antigênico presente no HBsAg denominado de determinante "a" (59, 61).As proteínas L e M estão presentes em maior proporção nas partículas virais íntegras e partículas ocas cilíndricas e têm um papel fundamental na infecção pelo HBV, participando no processo de captação do vírus pelas células hepáticas e do processo de morfogênese da partícula viral (62).As proteínas L, M e S compartilham um domínio na extremidade carboxila com quatro hélices putativas para ancoragem na membrana. ObjectivesThe sub-acute toxic effects following repetitive intramuscular injection of two cervical cancer vaccines newly developed against human papillomaviruse (HPV)16/58/18 and HPV16 were investigated in female ICR (CrljOri: CD1) mice, and the no-observedadverse-effect-level (NOAEL) of the cervical cancer vaccines was estimated. Methods Female ICR mice (n=15 in each group) were exposed to a 1:1 mixture of two cervical cancer vaccines by repetitive intramuscular injection (once a week, 5 times) for 5 weeks. Mortality, body weight, organ weight, hematological/biochemical parameters, and histopathological effects were examined at different concentrations (0, 1 × 10 8 , 5 × 10 8 , and 2.5 × 10 9 copies/animal) of the cervical cancer vaccines. Results The cervical cancer vaccines did not show toxic responses for body weight, absolute/relative organ weight, hematological/biochemical parameters, or histopathological parameters. Conclusions Female ICR mice exposed to vaccines for cervical cancer did not show any toxic response. We suggest that a NOAEL of the vaccine following repetitive intramuscular injection for 5 weeks is > 2.5 × 10 9 copies/animal.
