The garden is a major educational resource that can be used for all areas of knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective as it reflects the complexity and interactions of the natural environment. This research was carried out in the academic years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 with 418 participants of from the second, third, and fourth year of the Degree in Primary Education at the University of Valencia. The use of the garden and the landscape is analyzed as a non-formal context for training primary school teachers through sensory experiences that contribute to the development of scientific and artistic competencies. The study focused on the relationship between natural sounds and emotions to promote the environmental awareness and active listening that are necessary to improve auditory perception and reflect on health problems caused by noise pollution. During the project, we discovered the synergies between experimental sciences and artistic-musical expression and their importance for developing university students' competencies in the professional, personal, and collective spheres. The activities consisted of (1) a walking tour from the Faculty of Education to the garden at 1 km from the center, to reflect on the origin and characteristics of sound, emotions and their relationship with music; (2) sensory experiences in the garden through visual and auditory interaction with the landscape; and (3) an immersion in quasireal scenarios created by virtual reality. The analysis was carried out by means of an ad hoc questionnaire with Likert-type items focused on aspects of the usefulness of gardens and the activities involved in the general and specific skills of the degree and open questions for reflections on emotional health, environmental sustainability, and artistic-musical creation as a representation of the environment. The results show the importance of the garden as a resource for training of primary teachers in a holistic and global approach that contributes to the development of teaching skills and the acquisition of knowledge based on sensory experiences with the landscape.

El artículo recupera los aportes de Charlotte Perkins Gilman, pionera de la sociología feminista, para el análisis de los cuerpos y los artefactos en la simbolización y materialización del género. En el artículo se desarrollan tres categorías analíticas propuestas por Gilman: a) la noción de ‘simbolismo’, b) la categoría ‘diferenciación sexual excesiva’ (excessive sex-distinction) y, c) las ‘condiciones mecánicas’ (mechanical conditions) del vestido. Demuestro cómo la sociología propuesta por Gilman nos ofrece una lógica relacional que articula la dimensión simbólica y material del género. Sostengo cómo diversas reflexiones de la autora son precursoras de algunos de los debates contemporáneos en torno a los estudios de los cuerpos generizados, la sociología de la percepción y la relevancia de la materialidad para explicar lo social. Del mismo modo, destaco cómo Gilman señala que estos mecanismos sociales de expresión, materialización y performance del género están atravesados por cuestiones estructurales como la economía capitalista y la cultura androcéntrica.

“…Even more, research related to biophilic design strategies in cities around the world will serve as a basis for the rest of the cities that want to be added to the biophilic network [14]. Nonetheless, one of the main challenges that still exists is the global application of biophilic design, since what may work and be a successful project for one city may not be so for another, since the socio-cultural elements and the different contexts, as mentioned by Sabido [23], will have a significant influence on how people from different geographical locations perceive these strategies and design proposals. Another important issue that is still under discussion is how much green is appropriate and whether preferences for natural and green are directly related to specific age groups, because, according to some studies, "teenagers and adolescents have been the focus of many studies and their preference for built environments over natural ones has often been noted" and also there are other groups of populations that are very afraid of nature and will be more likely to choose built and mixed urban environments [24].…”

This study aims to identify and compare the objectives and elements of three emerging concepts, Health, Sustainability, and Resilience (HSR), which are proposed in this paper working together to provide a better response to the post-pandemic challenges that cities face today. This paper argues that it is possible to create sustainable, healthy, and resilient environments by reconnecting with nature through biophilic design (BD) by answering the following questions (1) What would be the common variables and elements when seeking to create a sustainable, healthy, and resilient environment and (2) How can those resultant elements be linked to biophilic design patterns to achieve solutions focused on improving people’s health and well-being by reconnecting with nature? Consequently, this paper tries to integrate biophilic design with the healthy, sustainable, and resilient environments while comparing the variables and indicators of each concept to demonstrate that there is a common connection between them. As a result, 19 overlapping concepts are identified through the content analysis method, namely: safety, crime, risk, adaptability, environment, green, land, water, pollution, food, affordability, housing, education, transportation, planning economics, policy, community, and management. Finally, it is shown that 16 of the 19 concepts are closely related to biophilic design. In conclusion, through biophilic design, it is possible to solve the problems represented in the HSR model. For those that are not contemplated by any of the patterns, it provides an opportunity for further research.
