Crystallization and Relaxation Behavior of Partially Disentangled Poly(vinyl chloride) Prepared from Large Molecule Solvent Dioctyl Phthalate

Abstract: Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) samples for the conformation and structural relaxation studies were prepared by freeze-extracting the solutions in various solvents and with varying concentrations. The partially disentangled PVC samples could be obtained by freeze-extracting very dilute PVC/ tetrahydrofuran (THF) and PVC/dimethyl phthalate (DMP) solution (0.05 wt %), while the PVC sample remains in an entangled state after freeze-extracting the concentrated solutions in THF and in DMP. Surprisingly, the extent of in… Show more

“…where N is the degree of polymerization and ρ p and ρ s are the density of the polymer and the solvent, respectively. [72,75] Qian et al [76] and Liu et al [77] stated that because of molecular motions the limit of chain separation is at a lower concentration, known as the dynamic contact concentration, C s . Usually, C s is 1-2 orders of magnitude lower than C*, for example, for aPS: C* = 1 wt% and C s = 6 × 10 −2 wt%.…”

“…Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) is one of the most widely used commercial polymeric materials due to its low cost, antierosion capacity, flame resistance, and long‐term stability 1–3. It can be easily changed from a thorough hard material into a flexible material by adding amounts of plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate (DOP).…”

“…Nowadays, polymer matrix composites have been widely used in aerospace, building constructions, packaging fields, mobile device displays, and automotive fields . Among these materials, poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) is applied as an optically transparent acrylic, because of the sufficiently optical transparency and low density .…”
