This paper provides new evidence on the effect of immigration on election outcomes. Our analysis makes use of data on city districts in Hamburg, Germany, during a period of substantial inflows of immigrants and asylum seekers. We find significant and robust effects for changes in foreigner shares on the electoral success of parties that built up a distinctive reputation in immigration politics. In particular, our fixed-effects estimates indicate a positive effect for xenophobic, extreme right-wing parties and an adverse effect for the Green party that actively campaigned for liberal immigration policies and minority rights. Overall, our results support the hypothesis that changes in local compositional amenities shape individual attitudes towards immigration.

Youth is an important segment of population of any country. Young people are the asset of the society and if the energy and creativity of the youth is utilized positively, it can contribute to the prosperity and development of the nation. However, sometimes unfavorable conditions and circumstance put their energy on negativity, and they become the victim of the negativity and get involve in anti-social behaviors and activities which hinder the development of society. The current research paper focuses to study the aggression level among the unemployed youth in Bahawalpur, a district of Punjab, Pakistan. Unemployment and poverty negatively affect the youth and cause many social, psychological, and economic problems. The stress and frustration of the unemployment increases the aggressive behavior among youth, and they become involve in anti social and violent activities. So it is important to study the impact of unemployment on young people and make efforts to invest the energies of youth on positive side and use it for the progress the nation. Current study focuses on the level of aggression and different factors of aggression and their relationship. A sample of 100 educated young people was taken through questionnaire. It is concluded from the information obtained during research that all the factors of aggression have positive relationship. The young people with low socio-economic background and low level of educational qualification were more aggressive as compared to the middle and upper class unemployed youth and with higher degree of education. There was a slight difference between the aggression level of married and unmarried young people. Married people were slightly more aggressive than the unmarried.

The Securitization of the Syrian Refugee Crisis Through Political Party Discourses

The present study investigates major Turkish political party discourses about the Syrian refugees in Turkey based on parties' manifestoes and pamphlets. The refugee problem increased nationalist feelings in Turkey specifically when the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, explained that the Syrians could be naturalized. To analyse this situation, we draw on theories on securitization and xenophobia. Political party discourses were analysed by Nvivo 11 software program. The results suggest that while the Justice and Development Party (AKP) uses historical-cultural and Islamic discourses, the CHP has an economic discourse. The MHP, the Turkish nationalist party, and the HDP, the Kurdish nationalist party, both deploy nationalist discourses. Members of the CHP claim that the Syrians are the source of major crimes and unemployment. The AKP adopts an Ensar-Muhacir (guest-host) discourse because of its Islamic approach to the refugees. Political parties in Turkey securitize the Syrian refugee crisis through their political discourses, which result in the rise of xenophobia in Turkey. The study suggests that political parties lead to the rise in anti-refugee attitude.
