Cortisol Levels in Human Aqueous Humour and Blood Plasma

Abstract: Cortisol levels in human aqueous humour and blood plasma were determined by means of the competitive protein-binding method. Cortisol concentration in six patients averaged 80.1 ± 23.8 ng/ml in plasma and 32.0 ± 10.1 ng/ml in aqueous. The results suggest the existence of blood-aqueous barrier for the main circulating glucocorticoid in human plasma. The identity of cortisol in aqueous humour was demonstrated by radio-chemical methods.
