Cortisol levels in human aqueous humour and blood plasma were determined by means of the competitive protein-binding method. Cortisol concentration in six patients averaged 80.1 ± 23.8 ng/ml in plasma and 32.0 ± 10.1 ng/ml in aqueous. The results suggest the existence of blood-aqueous barrier for the main circulating glucocorticoid in human plasma. The identity of cortisol in aqueous humour was demonstrated by radio-chemical methods.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
