Correlation of TSLP, IL-33, and CD4 + CD25 + FOXP3 + T regulatory (Treg) in pediatric asthma

Abstract: Children with asthma show elevated serum levels of TSLP, which correlated negatively with asthma control test and Treg cells. TSLP may be used as a biomarker for inflammation in pediatric asthma patients.

“…The data obtained correlate with the evidence of other researchers who did not find any statistically significant differences in serum TSLP levels in patients with asthma, SAFS and the ones without allergic reactions 26,27 . On the contrary, Chauhan et al 28 showed that high serum TSLP levels negatively correlated with the amount of Treg in children with asthma. The authors suggested TSLP as a biomarker to assess the severity of the inflammatory process of the respiratory tract in paediatric patients with asthma.…”

“…No comorbidities or positive RAST had an impact on the serum TSLP level in our results when the AD diagnosis was present. Previous studies have revealed a significant upregulation of serum TSLP in asthmatic, but non‐AD children . In our study, this upregulation from asthma appears neutralized if AD is present.…”

“…TSLP has been implicated as a mediator in the pathway of pediatric asthma, with higher plasma TSLP levels correlating with poor asthma control. 32 TSLP promotes basophil production and type 2 inflammation. 33 Infection of human airway epithelial cells with hMPV induced expression of TSLP, as well as leading to upregulation of IL-8 and IL-33, whereas TSLP blockade led to reduced lung inflammation, 34 indicating activation of the TSLP pathway initiating airway inflammation by hMPV acute infection.…”
