Through this research, our main focus was: to investigate the biochemical brain metabolites (NAA-N-acetylaspartate, GABA-Gama-Aminobutyric Acid, Asp-Aspartate, CR-Creatine, Gln-Glutamine, GPC-Glicerophosphocholine, PC-Phosphocholine, PCr-Phosphocreatine, Tau-Taurine, N-MDA-N-Metyl-D-Aspartate, Serine, Glicine, Cho-Choline); the neuroimagistic, the brain biochemical and metabolic abnormalities in children and adolescents with epilepsy before and after treatment; to review the main antiepileptic medication administered to these patients; and to make some correlations with the results obtained through Magnetic Resonance (MR) Spectroscopy, for further proper early detection and intervention in children and adolescents with epilepsy. Our research was performed between 2010-2017, involving 45 children and adolescents with epilepsy. Also, the patients were evaluated through MR Spectroscopy at baseline and after pharmacotherapy. Through the MR Spectroscopy, we investigated key aspects of the brain function and metabolism. The antiepileptic medication was chosen according to the guides and the type of epileptic seizures. The efficacy of the chosen therapy was evaluated through the change of the relevant MR spectroscopy biochemical brain metabolites. Our results, showed statistically significant modified values and concentrations of the biochemical cerebral metabolites. Our research was a proof, which the evaluation of the biochemical brain metabolites through MR Spectroscopy is of high clinical utility in prevention, early detection and intervention in epilepsy in children and adolescents.

A well designed targeted chemotherapy is considered one of the goals of anticancer treatment, significantly improving the survival rate, but there is evidence suggesting it may presents significant drawbacks. Oxidative stress is frequently associated with chemotherapeutic agents, generating increased reactive oxygen species which may alter the female genital system. There are numerous opinions suggesting supplemental antioxidants in chemotherapy represent a positive therapeutic strategy. This study aim was to assess if antioxidants as zinc are able to preserve female rat�s genital system in cyclophosphamide (CP) - induced oxidative stress. In experiment there was used 21 female Wistar rats which were randomly divided in three groups: control, cyclophosphamide - administered group and cyclophosphamide-ZnCl2 administered group. After four weeks, blood was collected to determine malondialdehyde (MDA) level and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity. Our results suggests that zinc reduces the deleterious effect of oxidative stress on female rats genital system, the decrease of MDA level together with GPx increase being considered as a result of Zn administration.

Symptom-based diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is not specific due to high prevalence of disorders that can mimic GERD. Conventional pH monitoring, combined pH-MII (multiple intraluminal impedance) monitoring and esophagogastroduodenoscopy are diagnostic methods most frequently used in children.Combined pH-MII monitoring is the most accurate diagnostic method for detecting GERD in children, which tends to become the gold standard. In infants and probably in children with extraesophageal symptoms, MII gives the greatest contribution to the validity of pH-MII monitoring. High prevalence of functional heartburn, in children older than 8 years, suggests the importance of pH-MII monitoring in this age group as well. The majority of studies showed age differences in the chemical composition of refluxate. Weakly acid reflux is more common in infants and is often associated with symptoms, whereas acid reflux is more common in older children and adolescent. Sensitivity of endoscopy is very low compared to pH-MII monitoring as a reference test. Although endoscopy is the method of choice for the confirmation of reflux esophagitis, pH-MII parameters are promising indicators of mucosal integrity, but further studies are needed.The major problem with pH-MII monitoring is a lack of normative data for children. Therefore, the standardization is mandatory. For the present pH-MII monitoring has limited impact on treatment due to the absence of effective therapy for weakly acid reflux, suggesting that further studies should be directed in this direction.
