Coronary slow flow phenomenon: Clinical findings and predictors

Abstract: Background:In some patients with chest pain, selective coronary angiography reveals slow contrast agent passage through the epicardial coronary arteries in the absence of stenosis. This phenomenon has been designated the slow coronary flow (SCF) phenomenon. Objectives:In this study, we aimed to describe the demographic and clinical findings and presence of common atherosclerosis risk factors in patients with the SCF phenomenon.Patients and Methods:Between October 2014 and March 2015, demographic data, clinical … Show more

“…11 In two studies, low HDL-c level seems to be an independent predictor for CSF phenomenon. 10,24 In our study we found high TG levels in CSF group like previous studies. However we did not found a significant difference with HDL-c in two groups.…”

“…In previous studies demonstrated that low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and high triglyceride (TG) levels were associated with CSF. [9][10][11] Besides low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) was found associated with CSF. 12 As an "atherogenic index of plasma" LDL-c to HDL-c ratio (LDL-c/HDL-c) and TG to HDL-c (TG/HDL-c) are also associated with increased cardiometabolic risk, acceleration on the atherosclerotic plaque progression and worse cardiovascular events.…”

“…LAD artery is the most common coronary artery involved (n = 50), followed by LCX (n = 16) and right coronary artery (RCA) (n = 34) which is similarly reported in other study populations. 8,10 Pontiroli et al 12 in his study population showed that a reduction in BMI after surgical procedures like gastric banding is associated with significant improvement in markers causing endothelial dysfunction, which is the causative factor for CSF phenomenon. BMI is found to be the strongest predictor of coronary slow flow (p = 0.000) in our study population.…”

“…Coronary Slow Flow Phenomenon Rao V. as studies by Gökçe et al and Amirzadegan et al 5,[7][8][9][10] show. In a study conducted in the Iranian population with CSF phenomenon, 75% of the patients presented with ACS which is different from our study where CSA is more common.…”

“…Pathophysiological inaccuracy leads to no targeted treatment. Previous studies have focused on the search for predictors [3][4][5][6][7] and potential therapeutic approaches [8][9][10], yielded signi cant results and received widespread recognition. Nevertheless, current guidelines do not provide clear treatment recommendations and evaluation procedures for this population, especially after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).…”
