Coping styles associated with glucose control in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Aims/Objectives Glycemic control varies according to stress level and the efficacy of control measures, affecting the outcomes of diabetes. Although detailed coping styles have not been well studied in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, problem‐focused coping strategies are believed to be related to better control of blood glucose. Associations between coping profiles/dimensions and blood glucose control were examined in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods The participants included 503… Show more

“… 6 Concerning diabetes care amid the pandemic, stress is thought to worsen individuals' health coping capabilities, directly impacting their ability to achieve proper glycemic control. 7 Thus, psychological and emotional support for patients at risk of or living with diabetes during the pandemic is critical to avoiding the negative consequences of suboptimal diabetes control. 8 Moreover, from a disease prevention perspective, health promotion interventions that have been implemented in well-structured diabetes prevention programs have shown great potential to decrease the risk of developing diabetes (50–70%).…”

“…Unfortunately, jump points may exist in CGM data due to the recalibration of the sensor, the drift of sensor signals [26,27], or abnormal metabolism [28]. In especial, the blood glucose metabolism can be influenced by human mental or behavior activities like experiencing negative emotions [29][30][31], eating high-sugar food [32,33], and doing acute exercise [34,35]. When these activities are excessive, the blood glucose metabolism may be abnormal [36][37][38] and then result in jump points in BG levels.…”
