Contact resistance investigation of electrical connector with different shrink range

Abstract: The reliability of electric connection and a stable contact resistance value is usually the most important thing for electrical connector, especially for the electrical connector used in severe environment such as frequently vibration. The present study has investigated the relationship between shrink range and contact resistance of a kind of electrical connector by using the ANSYS software. A indirect coupled structural thermal electrical method was developed to obtain the relations. This paper gives the maxi… Show more

“…Considering that the accelerated life test is spend too much time for product with high reliability and long life. In order to fully utilize the performance degradation data, DuanK, Zhu F, Li Y [13] researched the relationship between contact stress shrinkage range and contact resistance based on ANSYS. Li Y, Zhu F, Chen Y [14] used ANSYS software to model the insertion force between the contacts, specific measures to improve the contact reliability of electrical connectors.…”

“…Therefore, the analysis of the insertion-extraction forces of the connector attracts considerable attention by numerous researchers. 5 Duan and Zhu et al studied the influence of the structure parameters on shrink range [6][7][8] through simulation experiments and analysis of the insertion force of an N-type electrical connector. Abdi and Enjemaa et al tested the insertion force of 6 clamped lamellas in an automotive connector by using laser detection equipment.…”

“…Although the contact pressure is not measured experimentally, we can assume that the connection pressure between the electrodes results from the elastic restoring force of the adhesive. The experimental and mathematical investigations in this study indicate that the real contact area allows for electrical conductance because the two metals are in contact with each other over some of the apparent contact area [51][52][53][54][55][56]. Thus, the film-type connector forms a plate-to-plate contact between the electrode and the connecting unit, which ensures the maximum apparent and real contact areas.…”
