Constituents of Clinopodium Umbrosum

Abstract: The isolation and identification of fifteen crystalline components from the whole herb of Clinopodium umbrosum (Bieb.) C. Koch (Labiatae) are described. Their structures were determined on the basis of spectral evidence and chemical transformation. These compounds include five steroids (a-spinasterone, {1-sitosterol, stigmasterol, a-spinasterol, and a-spinasteryl-3-0-P-glllcopyranoside), four triterpenoids (3J5-hydroxyurs-11-en-28,13-olide, betulinic acid, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid), four flavonoids (luteol… Show more

“…In recent years, several papers have described phytochemistry investigations of various species of Clinopodium and it was found to be rich in saponins 3,4 , flavones 5,6 , polyphenols 7,8 , terpenes 9,10 , etc. C. urticifolium belongs to the Clinopodium genus, which widely distributed in Shanxi, Gansu and Ningxia, northwest of China. In previous work, some bioactive compounds were isolated from this plant 9,11,12 . Motivated by search for bioactive metabolites from this plant, a reinvestigation the chemical constituents of the whole plant of C. urticifolium were carried out.…”
