Background: Depression is a major public health concern that accounts for a high global disease burden. Objectives: The aim of this study, developing a depression inventory for screening the Fars ethnicity in Iran. Methods: The research was carried out using a combined (multi-stage) method in the Persian ethnicity between April 2016 and March 2017. Individual interviews were conducted in Tehran, Iran, with depressed patients, the patients' relatives or friends and key informants. In the next stage, a 28-item tool was designed. The face, content, criterion and construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis) of the designed tool were assessed in order to determine its validity. Data were analyzed by Amos 24 and spss16. Results: This study was conducted on 150 individuals, 55% female and 45% male, selected from the general public through convenience sampling with a mean age of 35.28 ± 12. 38. The impact score for all the items was between 1.8 and 5, CVR was between 0.7 and 1 for all the items and S-CVI/Ave was 97.09 ± 0.63. Based on the results of the confirmatory factor analysis, all the components were approved as factors used to screen for depression. The model fit coefficients, the CMIN/DF was calculated as 1.93. NFI, CFI and GFI were 0.70, 0.54 and 0.73 respectively. For reliability, Cronbach's alpha was calculated as 0.88 with an internal consistency coefficient that is 0.7. Conclusions: This depression screening tool for the Fars ethnicity was designed based on the Fars ethnicity and the Iranian culture and appears to be an appropriate tool due to its good reliability, validity, simplicity and applicability in different situations.

Development of PATS: A tool to assess professionalism

Background: Professionalism has become a specific requirement for medical graduates because of dissatisfaction regarding their preparedness to adequately deal with the challenges of the medical world. It should be assessed as a competency in the final year of study using a valid and reliable instrument. The purpose was to develop and validate a tool to assess the development of professionalism in final year medical students in the local context to assess the readiness of medical graduates. Method: This was a mixed method study. Micro scenarios for the preliminary instrument were developed after a focus group meeting. These were validated using a 3-round modified Delphi technique by email. Twenty-four participants responded in the first round, and 15 in the second and third rounds. After the first round, relevance of the item was obtained. The content validity ratio was calculated after second round. Cut off value for items were approximated to be 0.6 and 0.73 for modification and 0.8 for item retention. The second round revised analysis was sent to participants for the third round and the content validity index average and universal agreement were calculated. Cognitive pretesting was performed. Cronbach’s Alpha for reliability and Confirmatory factor analysis were carried out. Results: The focus group produced 46 micro-scenarios using a manual qualitative analysis. The first round of Delphi produced 35 items. On calculation of Content validity ratio 12 items were retained, 18 were revised and 5 were removed. Content validity index (I-CVI) and content validity scale (S-CVI) were 0.94 and 0.64 respectively. Pre-cognitive testing resulted in the modification of 4 items. The Confirmatory factor analysis was 4.1. Cronbach’s Alpha was 0.96. Conclusion: The final instrument developed has a 27 item 5-point Likert scale. It has good content validity, reliability and acceptable construct validity. The strength of the instrument is in its process of development i.e. focus group discussion, the iterative Delphi rounds, cognitive pre-testing and piloting. It can be used to assess the development of professionalism in final year medical students. Tes Potensi Manajerial merupakan tes psikologi mengukur potensi manajerial dalam ranah kognitif berdasarkan konsep Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent (DMGT) yaitu terjadinya proses transformasi potensi menjadi talenta. Tujuan penelitian adalah menguji konstruk tes potensi manajerial yaitu konstruk kognitif, metakognitif dan kreativitas berdasarkan validitas butir menggunakan factor analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Jumlah butir tes sebanyak 80 butir, pengambilan data pada sampel di industri otomotif level manajerial Supervisor, Asisten Manager dan Manager berjumlah 181 subyek. Mengingat adanya penambahan butir menjadi 80 butir, dilakukan kategorisasi faktor sebagai uji pendahuluan menggunakan Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Pengolahan data CFA menggunakan program Lisrel version 8.80, hasil pengujian berdasarkan model fit dan butir validi dengan Pvalue > 0,05; factor loading positif; t-value >1,96. Diperoleh hasil 11 indikator dengan jumlah 50 butir valid pada 3 konstruk. Konstruk kognitif terdiri 3 indikator, asumsi, deduktif dan interpretasi, jumlah 17 butir valid; konstruk metakognitif terdiri 5 indikator, deklarasi, kondisi, strategi, pengawasan, evaluasi, jumlah 16 butir valid dan konstruk kreativitas terdiri 3 indikator, fleksibelitas, keberanian berbeda dan spontanitas, jumlah 17 butir valid. Kesimpulan Tes Potensi Manajerial dapat dipakai di industri otomotif menggunakan 11 indikator dan 50 butir valid. Adanya perbedaan komposisi indikator dan jumlah butir yang dihasilkan dibandingkan penelitian sebelumnya sebagai indikasi tipe bisnis atau industri berbeda membutuhkan karakteristik Tes Potensi Manajerial spesifik.
