Treatment of wounds in special areas is challenging due to inevitable movements and difficult fixation. Common cotton gauze suffers from incomplete joint surface coverage, confinement of joint movement, lack of antibacterial function, and frequent replacements. Hydrogels have been considered as good candidates for wound dressing because of their good flexibility and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, the adhesive, mechanical, and antibacterial properties of conventional hydrogels are not satisfactory. Herein, cationic polyelectrolyte brushes grafted from bacterial cellulose (BC) nanofibers are introduced into polydopamine/polyacrylamide hydrogels. The 1D polymer brushes have rigid BC backbones to enhance mechanical property of hydrogels, realizing high tensile strength (21–51 kPa), large tensile strain (899–1047%), and ideal compressive property. Positively charged quaternary ammonium groups of tethered polymer brushes provide long‐lasting antibacterial property to hydrogels and promote crawling and proliferation of negatively charged epidermis cells. Moreover, the hydrogels are rich in catechol groups and capable of adhering to various surfaces, meeting adhesive demand of large movement for special areas. With the above merits, the hydrogels demonstrate less inflammatory response and faster healing speed for in vivo wound healing on rats. Therefore, the multifunctional hydrogels show stable covering, little displacement, long‐lasting antibacteria, and fast wound healing, demonstrating promise in wound dressing.

In this study, we aimed to produce a coloured polyester fabric through the in situ sonosynthesis of copper nanoparticles using copper sulphate, hydrazine, sodium hydroxide and polyvinylpyrrolidone. The treated fabrics were characterised by X‐ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy and elemental mapping. Moreover, mechanical properties, wettability and antibacterial/antifungal activities of the treated fabrics were evaluated. Central composite design based on the response surface methodology was used to study the effect of copper sulphate, hydrazine hydrate and sodium hydroxide on the weight gain and colour of the treated fabrics. In addition to their roles as reducing agents, hydrazine and sodium hydroxide were responsible for the simultaneous aminolysis and hydrolysis of polyester, increasing the adsorption of nanoparticles on the surface. According to the results, the reddish brown samples treated with copper nanoparticles showed excellent antibacterial and antifungal efficiencies, improved tensile strength and decreased wettability.

Earth produces 2.12 billion tons of total wastes annually and nearly 2 million tons of petroleum-based synthetic polymers each day. The majority of synthetic polymers were obtained by packaging applications. Biodegradable films(biofilms) can be a good alternative for pollution-creating synthetic polymers.Rice hull powder (RHP) as reinforcing fillers, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as matrix along with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were used to prepare the biofilms. By using the solution casting method, five samples of PVA/RHP (1-5 mM) AgNPs biofilms were fabricated and characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-Ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry beyond testing for their mechanical and antibacterial activities. The small spherical shape elements in the FESEM images clarify the presence of AgNPs. The intensities of observed peaks in the FT-IR spectrum keep decreasing with the inclusion of AgNPs. The X-ray diffractogram confirms the strong peaks at 2θ = 38.2 , 49.1 , 60.8 , & 78.3 due to the presence of the AgNPs. The tensile strength and tensile modulus reached a maximum value of 35.5 and 871 MPa respectively. The presence of heat-stable metallic silver made the biofilms thermally stable up to 371 C and also improved the antibacterial activity exhibited by a better inhibition zone. The improved results clarified that biofilms can be suggested for packaging applications.
