Concentration Changes Of PM10 Under Liquid Precipitation Conditions

Abstract: This study reports the results of field research into variability of the scavenging coefficient (Λ) of suspended dust comprising particles with aerodynamic diameters less than 10 mm. Registration of PM10 over 7 years in conditions of the occurrence of rainfall (convective light showers, large-scale precipitation and storms) was undertaken in an undeveloped rural area. The analysis involved 806 observations taken at constant time intervals of 0.5 hour. The measurements of the concentration of PM10 were performe… Show more

“…6. The results of measurements of particulate matter in the area of the green roof models confirmed the observations of other researchers [19], that the roughness of biologically active surfaces (especially after rainfall) intensifies the reduction of the concentration of particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10. Research will be continued to precisely determine the impact of various types of plants on the reduction of particulate matter contamination.…”

“…Analyses of particulate matter retention (PM2.5 and PM10) by plants and soil on the green roof were also performed, based on analyses conducted by various researchers [17][18][19]. Throughout the whole period of research, particulate matter was measured at the location of green roof models using a Holdpeak 5800D particulate matter meter.…”

“…In the case of wet deposition, rain scavenging generally takes place via Brownian diffusion, inertial impaction, diffusiophoresis, thermophoresis and electrical charge effects [ 54 56 ]. The process of rain scavenging is affected by many factors, including raindrop size distribution and intensity, particle size distribution and concentration, the chemical and physical properties of droplets and atmospheric temperature regimes [ 57 , 58 ].…”

“…Data provided by IOŚ-PIB [1] show that combustion of fuels for energy generation, mainly coal in stationary sources [2], accounts for approximately 75% of PM10 national emission and almost 100% of SO2 national emission. Aerosanitary situation is determined by pollution emission values as well as by weather conditions which, on the one hand, result in intensification of heating process and, on the other, may contribute to effective dispersion or accumulation of pollutants leading to smog situations [3][4][5][6][7][8][9].…”
