Complexation of diazaperylene and bisisoquinoline with transition metal ions in the gas phase studied by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

Abstract: The complex formation of the ligands 1,12-diazaperylene (dap), 1,1'-bisisoquinoline (bis), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) with transition metal ions (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ru, Os, Re, Pd, Pt, Ag and Cd) in the gas phase has been studied by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. With the exception of Ru, Os, Fe, Ni and Cu, singly charged complexes [MLn](+) (n = 1,2) were observed. The complexes of dap and bis with Ru, Os, Fe and Ni ions, and the mixed ligand complexes with bpy and ph… Show more

“…Both complex formation and stability of the unsubstituted ligands dap , bis , bpy and phen with transition metal ions in the gas phase have been studied by ESI‐MS and CID measurements 53. In this paper, we extend our studies to the gas‐phase complexation of non‐substituted ligands to copper complexes with disubstituted ligands ( dmdap , dmbis , dedap , debis , dipdap , dipbis , meodap , meobis , phbis – R = Ph, pybis – R = pyridine and dmphen ; see Scheme ).…”

“…The title compound is a well-known ligand in the coordination chemistry [8][9][10][11][12][13]. In most complexes 1,1′-bisisoquinoline acts as bidendate ligand, but can also occur as bridging ligand in binuclear complexes.…”

“…Similarly, the ESI-MS for the compound [Ag(4,5-diazafluoren-9-one) 2 ]NO 3 [21] showed only one strong peak representing the complex [Ag(L) 2 ] + with (Ag: L = 1:2). On the contrary, the ESI-MS for a solution containing AgBF 4 and excess bidentate 1,12-diazaperylene ligand indicate the formation of the 1:1 (90%) Ag:L complex while the expected 1:2 complex is only observed as a minor peak (10%) [31]. Thus the complexation behaviour of silver(I) ions in solution is complicated.…”
