Herein, we report the synthesis of two phenylaza-[18]crown-6 lariat ethers with a coumarin fluorophore (1 and 2) and we reveal that compound 1 is an excellent probe for K(+) ions under simulated physiological conditions. The presence of a 2-methoxyethoxy lariat group at the ortho position of the anilino moiety is crucial to the substantially increased stability of compounds 1 and 2 over their lariat-free phenylaza-[18]crown-6 ether analogues. Probe 1 shows a high K(+)/Na(+) selectivity and a 2.5-fold fluorescence enhancement was observed in the presence of 100 mM K(+) ions. A fluorescent membrane sensor, which was prepared by incorporating probe 1 into a hydrogel, showed a fully reversible response, a response time of 150 s, and a signal change of 7.8% per 1 mM K(+) within the range 1-10 mM K(+). The membrane was easily fabricated (only a single sensing layer on a solid polyester support), yet no leaching was observed. Moreover, compound 1 rapidly permeated into cells, was cytocompatible, and was suitable for the fluorescent imaging of K(+) ions on both the extracellular and intracellular levels.

We report the synthesis of free 1,6,7,12-tetraazaperylene (tape). Tape was obtained from 1,1'-bis-2,7-naphthyridine by potassium promoted cyclization followed by oxidation with air. Mono- and dinuclear ruthenium(II) 1,6,7,12-tetraazaperylene complexes of the general formulas [Ru(L-L)(2)(tape)](PF(6))(2), [1](PF(6))(2)-[5](PF(6))(2), and [{Ru(L-L)(2)}(2)(μ-tape)](PF(6))(4), [6](PF(6))(4)-[10](PF(6))(4), with{L-L = phen, bpy, dmbpy (4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine), dtbbpy (4,4'-ditertbutyl-2,2'-bipyridine) and tmbpy (4,4'5,5'-tetramethyl-2,2'-bipyridine)}, respectively, were synthesized. The X-ray structures of tape·2CHCl(3) and the mononuclear complexes [Ru(bpy)(2)(tape)](PF(6))(2)·0.5CH(3)CN·0.5toluene, [Ru(dmbpy)(2)(tape)](PF(6))(2)·2toluene and [Ru(dtbbpy)(2)(tape)](PF(6))(2)·3acetone·0.5H(2)O were solved. The UV-vis absorption spectra and the electrochemical behavior of the ruthenium(ii) tape complexes were explored and compared with the data of the analogous dibenzoeilatin (dbneil), 2,2'-bipyrimidine (bpym) and tetrapyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c:3'',2''-h:2''',3'''-j]phenazin (tpphz) species.

Enge Kanäle mit polaren Wänden bestimmen Struktur und Funktion eines Metall‐organischen Gerüsts aus Zinkionen und einem Imidazolat‐Amid‐Imidat‐Liganden (siehe Struktur: Zn orange, N blau, O rot, C dunkelgrau, H hellgrau), das über eine hohe Aufnahmekapazität für H2 und CO2 verfügt. Der starre und stabile Chelatligand entsteht in situ durch partielle Hydrolyse eines Dicyanimidazols.

Seek and destroy: Filtration schemes and self-detoxifying protective fabrics based on the Zr(IV)-containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) MOF-808 and UiO-66 doped with LiOtBu have been developed that capture and hydrolytically detoxify simulants of nerve agents and mustard gas. Both MOFs function as highly catalytic elements in these applications.

The new π-conjugated 1,2,3-triazol-1,4-diyl fluoroionophore 1 generated via Cu(I) catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition shows high fluorescence enhancement factors (FEF) in the presence of Na(+) (FEF=58) and K(+) (FEF=27) in MeCN and high selectivity towards K(+) under simulated physiological conditions (160 mM K(+) or Na(+), respectively) with a FEF of 2.5 for K(+).

Homoleptic NiII and FeII complexes of the “large‐surface” phenanthroline‐type ligand 1,12‐diazaperylene (dap), [Ni(dap)3](BF4)2 (1) and [Fe(dap)3](PF6)2 (2), respectively, were synthesized. In the crystal structure the complex cation [M(dap)3]2+ (M = Ni, Fe) exhibits C3 symmetry and interacts with three other cations by π‐π stacking. It forms a new metalla‐supramolecular assembly with a honeycomb structure containing nanochannels running parallel to the crystallographic c axis. Aggregation by π‐π stacking between metal complexes of “large‐surface” ligands should give new perspectives for inorganic supramolecular chemistry. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
