Complete Genome Sequence of the Acetogenic Bacterium Moorella thermoacetica DSM 2955 T

Abstract: Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Moorella thermoacetica DSM 2955T, an acetogenic bacterium, which uses the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway for reduction of H2 + CO2 or CO. The genome consists of a single circular chromosome (2.62 Mb).

“…In compliance with other Moorella genomes, the sequences encoding proteins of the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway of M. humiferrea DSM 23265 were organized as gene clusters. Remarkably, the carbonyl branch of this pathway corresponded to the gene cluster present in M. thermoacetica strains DSM 2955 ( 9 ) and DSM 521 ( 10 ), supporting the hypothesis that this cluster is highly conserved among closely related species ( 11 ). Several genes coding for oxidoreductases, hydrolases, and aminopeptidases probably involved in humic acid degradation ( 12 ) were detected in the genome.…”

“…Genes encoding proteins of the carbonyl branch of the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway showed the same arrangement as in Moorella thermoacetica ATCC 39073. Comparison revealed that the genome of strain DSM 521 T (2,527,564 bp) is smaller than that of ATCC 39073 (2,628,784 bp) and that of the recently published Moorella thermoacetica DSM 2955 T (2,623,349 bp) ( 20 ). We detected 992 single nucleotide polymorphisms in the final genome compared to M. thermoacetica ATCC 39073.…”
