Comparison of the karyotypes of the central and southern populations of the northern anchovy Engraufis mordax, girard 1854 (engraulidae, pisces)

Show more

El número de individuos estudiados karyotypic comparison of the central and southern populations of the northern anchovy E. mordax has shown that the genetic diversification found in other studies is not reflected in a modification of the number nor the structure of chromosomes (Uribe-Alcocer et al, 1996).…”

“…The number of specimens studied from each sample appears in table 1. The justification of the collection sites for the samples of the central and southern populations is presented by Uribe-Alcocer et al (1996). Hemoglobin analysis required organisms to be collected live so that fresh blood can be extracted.…”

“…Although E. mordax has a high potential for gene flow because of its high dispersion, many studies have advocated the isolation of populations along the North American coast (e.g. Vrooman et al, 1981;Uribe-Alcocer et al, 1996). These results are corroborated by the findings of Spanikis et al (1989) and Bembo et al (1996) that reported genetic and morphometric differences in E. encrasicolus between the Aegean and Ionian Seas and between the Aegean and Tyrrhenian Seas.…”
