Comparison of Outcome and Complications in Dogs Weighing Less Than 12 kg Undergoing Miniature Tibial Tuberosity Transposition and Advancement versus Extracapsular Stabilization with Tibial Tuberosity Transposition for Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease with Concomitant Medial Patellar Luxation

Abstract: Objective The aim of this study was to describe a technique for performing miniature tibial tuberosity transposition and advancement (mTTTA). The secondary objective of this study was to compare the short-term outcome and complications in small breed dogs weighing less than 12 kg undergoing surgical correction of cranial cruciate ligament disease with concurrent medial patellar luxation via either extracapsular stabilization with tibial tuberosity transposition (ECS + TTT) or mTTTA. “…Several surgical methods for treating concomitantly cranial cruciate ligament rupture and MPL have been reported, including extracapsular stabilization and tibial tuberosity transposition (TTT), 3 tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and TTT (TPLO-TTT), 4 TPLO with lateral translation of the distal tibial segment, 5,6 TPLO and additional transverse osteotomy, 7 TTT advancement, 8,9 and modified triple tibial osteotomy. 10 These techniques have been described either alone or in combination with additional procedures such as trochleoplasty or soft-tissue (retinacular) release or imbrication.…”

“…There are only a few reports describing the complication rates and outcome of the TTA and TTA with the tibial tuberosity transposition (TTTA) procedure in small breed dogs. 3,10,11 The main aim of this study was to evaluate the perioperative complications of TTA Tiny in small breed dogs and to evaluate the long-term outcomes including objective data from pressure-sensitive walkway (PSW) analysis in TTA Rapid and TTA Tiny in small breed dogs.…”

“…Small‐breed dogs routinely experience a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury, medial patellar luxation (MPL), or both conditions combined 1–4 . Cranial cruciate ligament injury and MPL often lead to the presence of radiographic signs of osteoarthritis (OA) at the time of diagnosis 5,6 .…”
