Comparison of Antioxidant and Anti-hyaluronidase Potentials of Pineapple Core Extract (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) and Luteolin

Abstract: Skin aging processes are divided into chronological aging and premature aging. Premature aging is generally caused by free radicals, from both air pollution and photoaging. Natural compounds from plant extracts are among sources of antioxidants and anti-hyaluronidase which have the ability to prevent antiaging. One of the potential fruits related to antioxidant and antiaging activities is Anana scomosus. A. comosus has a number of phenolic compounds with biological activities. One of the main phenolic compound… Show more

“…The H 2 O 2 presence in the reaction will cause the complex not to be formed. So if there is an antioxidant that traps H 2 O 2 , then the mixture color is orange that show the presence of Fe 2+ -tri-phenanthroline complex (Stevenie et al, 2019;Asan et al, 2019;Jusri et al, 2019;Liana et al, 2019;Utami et al, 2017).…”

“…Turbidity that can be read starting from 540 nm is proportional to the concentration of HA. The enzyme inhibitory activity determined based on the HA higher concentration remaining after the reaction is stopped (Stevenie et al, 2019;Asan et al, 2019;Jusri et al, 2019;Liana et al, 2019;Utami et al, 2017 In the anti-hyaluronidase activity test, the final concentration of the sample used was 166.67 µg/mL; 83.33 µg/mL; 41.67 µg/mL; 20.83 µg/mL; 10.42 µg/mL; and 5.22 µg/mL. The results of antihyaluronidase activities from RPE and RRE can be seen in Figure 4, while IC 50 values can be seen in Table 2.…”

“…The method employed by Asan et al (2019), Jusri et al (2019), Liana et al (2019), and Utami et al (2017) to measure H2O2 scavenging activities was used with modifications. Ferrous ammonium sulfate (1 mM, 12 µl) and samples at various concentrations (7.81-250 µg/ml, 60 µl), H2O2 (5 mM, 3 µl) were transferred into a 96-well plate and incubated at room temperature for 5 min.…”
