Comparing the Calculations of Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gases Emissions of Passenger Transport Service

Abstract: The paper, within the model example, deals with the calculation of energy consumption in transport and with the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions generated by transport according to the methodology given in EN 16258 of 2013. The model example shows the passenger transport between point A and point B within bus transport and alternatively using the air transport combined with bus transport.

“…The freight and passenger transport sector is expected to provide one of the largest contributions to the reduction of GHG emissions. In order to reduce emissions and diversify energy sources, alternative fuels have been promoted and suggested by a number of several particular methodologies at the national, EU, as well as global level, and have been discussed in a variety of research studies and publications [21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28].…”

“…The evaluation of the energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases of transport services must include the operational processes of the vehicle and the energy operational processes, which occur during the operational phase of its life cycle. The operational processes of a vehicle have to comprehend the operation of all the vehicle's systems including the propulsion and the complementary services [4,6,13].…”

“…These tests usually concern fuel and energy consumption by individual components of the drive system [20][21][22][23][24][25] and exhaust emissions [26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. For verification and comparative tests of different vehicles, it is necessary to reproduce identical or similar driving conditions [33][34][35][36]. Until now, chassis dynamometers with the possibility of simulating driving tests were used for this purpose.…”
