This paper has three main aims. First, the paper introduces the concept of integrated reporting () as described by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC). A background to the development of the concept over the 4‐year period from the inception of the IIRC in 2010 is provided, culminating in the release by the IIRC of a Consultation Draft (CD) of the framework in March 2013. Second, the paper discusses key issues currently being debated relating to the CD that the IIRC will need to resolve prior to the expected release of their framework in late 2013. This discussion is based on issues identified and reported to the IIRC by a subcommittee of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER) comprised of international accounting academics. Finally, the paper identifies a range of potential research issues relating to the development and implementation of .
The objective of machining performance is to reduce operational costs and to increase the production rate while maintaining or improving the required surface integrity of the machined component. Together with industrial partners, several benchmark titanium components were selected and machined to achieve this. Titanium alloys are used extensively in several industries due to its unique strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. Its properties, however, also make it susceptible to surface integrity damage during machining operations. The research objectives of this study were to understand the effect of cutting parameters on surface integrity to ensure that machined components are within the required surface quality tolerances. The effect of cutting speed and feed rate on surface roughness, micro-hardness, and the microstructure of the work piece were studied for milling Ti6Al4V. The surface roughness increased with a greater feed rate and a decrease in cutting speed. The maximum micro-hardness was 23 per cent harder than the bulk material. Plastic deformation and grain rotation below the machined surface were found with the rotation of the grain lines in the direction of feed. There was no evidence of subsurface defects for any of the cutting conditions tested.

The purpose of this paper is firstly to determine whether the International Integrated Reporting (IR) Framework is sufficiently robust to act as the guide for the IR movement. The secondary purpose is to speculate on the constraints that IR will face on its journey towards achieving the aims and vision of the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting Council). The paper is written in the form of a critical viewpoint, and will engage with the relevant academic literature and industry-led initiatives to achieve its objectives. The main finding of this paper is that the potential of the International <IR> Framework towards achieving its objectives lies more with the way it is applied than the way it was written. Academic literature does however highlight a number of potential constraints that will have to be overcome if integrated reporting is to achieve its long-term vision of financial stability and sustainability.
