Compact UWB–MIMO antenna with quad-band-notched characteristic

Abstract: With quad-band-notched characteristic, a compact ultrawideband (UWB) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is introduced in the paper. The UWB–MIMO system has two similar monopole elements and occupies 30 × 45 mm2. By inserting two L-shaped slots, CSRR and C-shaped stubs, four notched bands are achieved (3.25–3.9, 5.11–5.35, 5.5–6.06, and 7.18–7.88 GHz) to filter WiMAX, lower WLAN, upper WLAN, and X-band. Meanwhile, the isolation is obviously enhanced with three metal strips on the ground plane. Result… Show more

“…Besides, the H-plane co-polarization and cross-polarization patterns are almost identical to those from Port 1 due to the evenly shape of the two radiating elements. As depicted in Figure 8 showing the simulated realized gain, except at the notched bands, a consistent gain is achieved that is better than the ones achieved in [32][33][34]. The diversity performance of the MIMO antenna can be usually estimated by the envelope correlation coefficient ECC and the diversity gain DG parameters.…”

“…Envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is used in MIMO terminology as an indicator of the good isolation between the elements composing the multi-antenna system. ECC -expressed by 𝜌 𝑒 -can be calculated from S-parameters of the MIMO system as described in (4) [17], [18].…”

“…A MIMO antenna with two ports is investigated to attain triple band notches by inserting open-ended slots of quarter wavelength on the radiator [30]. A Compact two port MIMO Antenna with quad band notches is achieved by means of L shaped slots, circular ring slots on radiator, and two C shaped slots in the vicinity of tapered feed line [31]. A two port UWB-MIMO antenna with four band notches is attained by making use of L and C shaped slots and CSRRs.…”
