Communication skills intervention: promoting effective communication between nurses and mechanically ventilated patients

Abstract: BackgroundPatients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often experience communication difficulties - usually associated with mechanical ventilation - resulting in psychological problems such as anxiety, fear, and depression.
