Installing Piezometers in Deepwater Sediments

“…The chemical and isotopic nature of sediment pore waters can aid in understanding groundwater flow paths, recharge sources and chemical evolution of groundwater. In some settings, subbottom piezometers can be an efficient and cost-effective way to obtain information needed to resolve questions [e.g., Stauffer, 1993] as to how surface waters interact chemically and hydrologically with underlying groundwaters. However, the difficulty of working in deep water has hindered work in offshore regions.…”
