Colour stability of stained composite resins after brushing with whitening toothpaste

Abstract: Composite restorative materials are constantly being developed due to the demand of patients for aesthetically attractive healthy smiles. In order to achieve aesthetic, composite resin should mimic the natural tooth in both colour match and colour stability. In this regard, colour stability is one of the main concerns, especially when restoring anterior teeth. Evaluation of colour stability and discoloration is a widely used measurement tool that rates the success and failure of composite restorative materials … Show more

“…This study is not without limitations, as the artificial demineralization method and staining protocol may not fully replicate natural oral processes, potentially impacting results influenced by various oral environment challenges and oral healthcare products (Celik & Iscan Yapar, 2021;Forcin et al, 2021;Liu et al, 2022;Neres et al, 2017;Thimmaiah et al, 2019).…”

Although a previous study found no significant difference in surface roughness after subjecting infiltrated enamel to brushing and artificial aging challenges (Neres et al, 2017), the method's generalizability remains a concern.…”

“…An electric toothbrush was mounted on a stationary stand and the pressure sensor was activated, as depicted in Figure 1, to ensure that all specimens were brushed under standard pressure. Assuming that there are 28 teeth in the mouth and the recommended regular brushing time is 2 min twice a day, the maximum contact time of a tooth with the brush is determined as 10 s (Celik & Iscan Yapar, 2021). Thus, the specimens were brushed for 300 s to simulate a 30-day brushing time.…”
