Color Changes of Polyamid and Polymetyhl Methacrylate Denture Base Materials

Abstract: Aim: Both conventional and flexible resins may show color alteration due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the color changes of the polyamid and heat polymerized acrylic denture base materials in storage of different staining solutions. Methods: Two denture base materials were used in this study. The speciemens were stored in two staining solutions (tea, coffee), distilled water and denture cleaner. For each group, 14 speciemens (25 × 15 × 2.5 mm) were prepared. The colo… Show more

“…Various transparent pigments can be added to PMMA to achieve provide good aesthetic properties, mimicking the patient’s natural tissues ( Figure 2 h). Additionally, the denture base materials should have high color stability and should not change (discolor) in the oral environment over time [ 122 ]. However, PMMA-based materials have demonstrated poor color stability and tend to change while functioning due to several factors.…”

“…The results showed higher colour changes occurred in materials soaked in coffee than ingredients soaked in green tea. Sagsoz et al 22 undertook a study of the colour change of the polyamide and PMMA prostheses soaked in coffee, tea, distilled water and cleaning solutions. The results showed the greatest changes occurred in Polyamide materials that soaked in coffee.…”

“…The degree of color change was determined by a colorimeter or spectrophotometer that has a standard; if the value of ΔE is more than 3.7 then the color is unstable. [7][8][9] Several studies have linked the use of reinforcing materials with the strength of HPA resin denture base and found a significant influence. The addition of reinforcing material in the form of metal oxide to HPA resin can affect the physical, mechanical and biological properties of the den-ture base.…”
