Introduction: Temporomandibular joint disorders is a pathologic conditions as a caused of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction syndrome in stomatognathic system. This disorder was suffered in the population and affected the quality of life. This study was done to know how was the condition of temporomandibular joint disorders in the student of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran population. Another objective of this study was the diagnosis classification of revised RDC-TMD Axis I could be applicated in Indonesian population, and to calibrate the diagnostic. Methods: The research sample was 65, with 43 female and 22 male. Result: The result showed that 50% of the student of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran minimally suffered one diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders; with the most disorder was disc displacement with reduction, in left or right joint, followed by myofacial pain with limited opening. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research there was a high percentage of temporomandibular joint disorders in student population based on Revised Research Diagnosis Criteria for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders 2010, with the most disorder were disc displacement with reduction. So, it was important to socialize this sign and symptom of these disorders to community.
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction is a term that covers a number of clinical problems that involves masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joints and related structures, or both. Loss of tooth was an etiology of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to obtain the description of temporomandibular joint dysfunction level that caused by tooth loss of elderly in three nursing home Bandung. This was a descriptive study using the survey method of the elderly in three nursing home Bandung. A total of 34 people consist 6 males and 28 females. The subjects were examined by symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction and the dysfunction level was assessed by Helkimo Clinical Dysfunction Index. The result of this study show that elderly in Nursing Home Bandung have mild dysfunction level were 7 (14.71%), moderate dysfunction level were 22 (64.71%), and severe dysfunction level are 5 (20.58%). It can be concluded that loss of the teeth is one of the etiologies of temporomandibular joint disorder. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that all elderly with teeth loss will have temporomandibular joint disorder and the most severity happens based on teeth loss by using the Helkimo Clinical Disfunction Index score was the moderate disorder.
Purpose Disc displacement can cause resorption of the head of the condyle and affect its volume. This study analysed the volume of normal condyles and those with disc displacement with reduction (DDR) in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans from the Indonesian population. Materials and Methods This study analysed 56 condyles (26 normal and 30 with DDR) from patients who visited the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Unit after being referred from the Prosthodontics Unit at Dental Hospital Universitas Padjadjaran from December 2020 to February 2021. Samples were divided into 2 groups (normal and DDR left and right-side condyles) based on the DC/TMD Axis 1 form through the clinical examination results. Both sample groups were exposed to CBCT radiation. The CBCT imaging results in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine format were exported to the open-source ITK-SNAP format to determine condyle volume. Volumetric data from the cortical and trabecular areas of the right or left side condyles were arranged by sex. The independent t-test was used to determine the significance of differences with IBM SPSS version 21.0. Intra- and inter-observer reliability and validity were tested before determining the volume of the condyles. Results Normal condyles and DDR condyles showed significant differences in volume ( P <0.05). Significant differences were also seen in cortical ( P =0.0007) and trabecular ( P =0.0045) volumes. There was a significant difference in condylar volume based on sex. Conclusion The normal condyle volume was significantly different from the DDR condyle volume in both sexes.
Temporomandibular joint disorder is a stomatognathic system disorder causing mandibular function disturbance that clinically shows the following symptoms: clicking, crepitation, limited mouth opening, pain in masticatory muscles, pain in the jaw area, deviated mouth opening, ringing ear, pain around ear area, and headache. Experts stated that the prevalence of joint disorder was high. A study was conducted to the people of Cibodas Maribaya Village Bandung District who came to the Community Work event with results showing that the prevalence of clicking was 34 people or 32.4%, the deviation was found in 36 people or 34.3%, muscle pain was found in 28 people or 26.7%, a headache was found in 35 people or 33.3%, ear disorders was found in 23 people or 21.9%.
An occlusal splint is a removable appliance usually made of acrylic, that fits over the occlusal and incisal surfaces ofthe teeth in one arch, creating precise occlusal contact with the teeth of the opposing arch. Occlusal splint has severalfunctions, one of which is to temporarily provide an temporary occlusion that allows the temporomandibular joints(TMJ) to make the most othopedically stable joint position. Occlusal splint is also used to protect the teeth and itssupportive structure from abnormal forces that may create breakdown and/or tooth wear. Occlusal splint is reversibleand noninvasive treatment, which is most important in treating temporomandibular disorders (TMD) with manycausative factors involved. Many types of splints have been suggested for the treatment of TMD, but the most frequentlyused are the stabilization splint and the anterior positioning splint. The purpose of this paper is to describe the types ofocclusal splints and indication used for the treatment of TMD.
