Show more

“…In this sense, several studies have already been carried out, such as Dutra Filho et al (2020) who used repeatability analysis methods for the selection of Saccharum officinarum genotypes, with greater longevity in the stalks. Azevedo et al (2020) estimated the repeatability coefficients for the number of chestnut fruits and determined the appropriate number of measurements necessary for an efficient selection of promising chestnut trees (Bertholletia excelsa). Diel et al (2020a) estimated the repeatability coefficient and the number of measurements required for shows differences between the PCAcor and PCAcov methods.…”

“…The plant breeding process is time consuming, expensive and laborious due to the prolonged period of experimental evaluation and selection of superior genotypes before commercialization [27,28]. Therefore, the adoption of more robust and efficient statistical methodologies is essential to guide the process of genetic gain, especially in perennial species [29].…”

“…The evaluation and selection of superior genotypes comprise the main stages of a genetic improvement program, which tend to be time consuming and laborious in perennial crops (Sales et al, 2019;Azevedo et al, 2020;Ambrósio et al, 2021), such as the orange tree. Therefore, the adoption of more efficient statistical methods is essential for the genetic improvement of the species, considering the experiments involve long periods and high costs.…”
