Cluster building and logistics network integration of local food supply chain

Abstract: SAMMARYIn the agriculture sector, globalization of food production has considerably influenced the food supply system by increasing distance the food has to be transported to reach consumers. This situation not only has increased emissions of greenhouse gases but also has reduced the relationship between local food producers and consumers, affecting local food producers, their environment and culture. In this study, local food supply chain characteristics were investigated using data from some local food produc… Show more

“…There are also other researches that amplified the collaboration benefits (Zhao et al, 2016;Bosona & Gebresenbet, 2011;Kim et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2016). The collaboration approach is based on a theoretical aspect of improvement of the efficiency of the chain, e. g., partial freight collection, information sharing, etc.…”

“…Longer food chains are usually more efficiently organized, due to the quantities available. Regional food chains, on the other hand, reduce the actual distance and the number of intermediaries at the expense of efficient logistics, creating high distribution costs of regional food [4,58]. In turn they increase product margins for individual stakeholder, especially producers [59] as the value of the final product increases.…”

“…Clustering and developing network integration processes enable regions or countries to become strategic nodes in GSCs (Bosona & Gebresenbet 2011). This induces collaboration in logistics clusters built on, and motivated by, economic benefits, power, trust and information sharing (Groothedde, Ruijgrok & Tavasszy 2005).…”
