Clinical Observation of a Novel, Complementary, Immunotherapeutic Approach based on Ketogenic Diet, Chondroitin Sulfate, Vitamin D3, Oleic Acid and a Fermented Milk and Colostrum Product

Abstract: Abstract:Here we describe the results of a novel type of complementary immunotherapy of cancer that is based on a combination of ketogenic diet, administration of an emulsion made of chondroitin sulfate, vitamin D 3 and oleic acid and of a fermented milk and colostrum product. The results here reported are consistent with current knowledge concerning the biological and clinical effects of each one of the elements used in the approach described in this study. Based on our results, we suggest that, among the dif… Show more

“…The efficacy of this product in restoring the immune system was first reported in a preliminary study in 2011 (Pacini et al, 2011) and subsequently the product was utilized in the context of the integrated nutritional approach to immunotherapy (Ruggiero et al, 2014a;2014b;Thyer et al, 2014;Ward et al, 2014;Branca et al, 2015;Schwalb et al, 2016).…”

“…Since interpretation of ART can provide information on the potential responsiveness of the patient to different therapeutic approaches and since the involvement of the immune system in persistent Lyme is widely acknowledged, we used an emulsion of chondroitin sulfate, vitamin D 3 and oleic acid endowed with immune modulating properties as positive control (dr. reinwald healthcare, Schwarzenbruck, Germany). The characteristics of this emulsion and its potential use in integrative immunotherapy have been recently described (Schwalb et al, 2016).…”

“…In other words, we can hypothesize two different mechanisms of action: A fast response due to the interaction and remodeling of the cell membrane and a long-lasting, sustained response due to the modulation of gene expression. It is interesting to notice that these two different types of responses were observed, about thirty years later, when Rerum ® was used in the context of cancer (Schwalb et al, 2016).…”

“…The subcutaneous, intradermal or intramuscular routes of administration are of particular interest since these are efficient ways to prime and modulate the immune system in the context of vaccinations and immunotherapies (Herzog, 2014;Casale and Stokes, 2014) and are consistent with the observation of Prudden who reported excellent results using a combination of oral and subcutaneous administration of bovine cartilage extracts (Prudden, 1985). Using a variety of routes of administration, Rerum ® has been used in the complementary approach to cancer in patients with different malignancies; preliminary results concerning this clinical experience were published in this Journal in 2016 (Schwalb et al, 2016).…”
