Clinical Diagnosis of Metastatic Gastric Tumors: Clinicopathologic Findings and Prognosis of Nine Patients in a Single Cancer Center

Abstract: The clinical features of metastatic gastric tumors (MGTs) have not been well documented. We present a clinical series of nine patients with MGTs. Among 2579 patients with gastric tumors seen between 1992 and 2001, we studied 9 (0.3%) patients with MGT according to a prospective database. The MGTs were diagnosed based on findings in the surgical or endoscopic specimen, and patients with malignant lymphoma or direct invasion from adjacent organs were excluded from the study. “…Surgical resection is the preferred treatment for solitary metastasis in the absence of contraindication related to the general state (27). In the The clinical presentation of metastatic gastric tumors is often asymptomatic or non-specific unless the metastases invade the gastric mucosa or serosa (1). In cases of gastric metastasis arising from breast cancer, the incidence of hemorrhaging has been reported to be 12 to 33% (25,26).…”

“…Gastric metastases are rare, with a reported incidence of 0.2-0.7% based on clinical and autopsy findings, whereas primary gastric cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths (1)(2)(3). It may be very difficult to distinguish metastatic gastric tumors from primary gastric cancers based on clinical, endoscopic, radiological, and histopathological features.…”
