Clinical and radiographic evaluation of Curcumin Gel mixed Endoflas (CGE) powder as obturating material in primary molars

Abstract: Background:Zinc oxide eugenol(ZOE) has long been the material of choice for obturating primary teeth, but it is resistant to resorption, might result in a deflected successor and has limited antibacterial efficacy. Curcuminpossessesanti-inflammatory and antimicrobialproperties which can be implied by its use as obturating material in primary teeth. Objective: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of Curcumin Gel mixed Endoflas powderand Zinc oxide eugenol as obturating materials in primary molars.Material… Show more

“…72 Ninety-five percent of curcumin's antibacterial, antifungal, antiplatelet, and strong antioxidant properties come from C. longa. 73,74,75 Rai et al report that curcumin directly interacts with filamenting temperature-sensitive mutant Z (FtsZ) to impede bacterial cell division and enhance FtsZ's guanosine triphosphatase activity, which is fatal to the bacteria. 76 On the contrary, According to Swapnil SM.…”

“…The presence of iodine in iodoform may result in the yellowish discoloration of the tooth, thereby compromising the esthetics [5]. Outcomes of various studies have revealed the irritation caused by iodoform to the periapical tissues resulting in cement necrosis [6,7]. Therefore, the currently used obturating materials need further modification to meet satisfactory clinical outcomes.…”
